May 12, 2018 - Fly to Johnson City, TN |
I departed Massey Aerodrome and headed south down the Eastern Shore. Here I'm passing Wye Island which is deliberately undeveloped except for a farm or two.
Another look at Wye Island. There was an effort to develop it once, but it as voted down.
Boats hanging out at a nice sand bar.
Roanoke Airport off in the distance. It is a towered-airport; I've never landed there.
Eventually I merge with Interstate 81.
Approaching Mountain Empire airport, alongside I-81, where I stopped for gas. I've gotten to know the airport manager.
A little past Mountain Empire are all these long trailers. I guess that's what they are.
On my many flights to Johnson City, I never noticed this private grass strip before.
Grass-covered hills. | ||||||
And tree-covered bigger hills.
Passing over South Holston Lake.
And there is my destination: Johnson City airport.
I park in my normal spot. As a Johnson City airport veteran, I know to bring my tie-down kit.
